MK Regev Rips Livni on Opposition to 'Jewish State' Law

Member of Knesset Miri Regev (Likud Beytenu) sharply criticized Justice Minister Tzipi Livni on Friday for Livni's opposition to a bill that Prime Minister Binyamin intends to introduce to declare Israel as the national home for the Jewish people. The Chairwoman of the Knesset's Interior and Environmental Protection Committee said, "I'm ashamed that the justice minister, who is supposed to strengthen our being the Jewish people through legislation, is speaking like a left-wing extremist."

Regev made it clear, "There is no contradiction between being Jewish and being democratic." She continued, "We have nothing to be ashamed of, we have nothing to apologize for and we must continue working in this direction with all our might."
