Yesha Council Slams Peace Now on Statistics and Style

The Yesha Council of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria criticized the leftist Peace Now group, Tuesday, for a Peace Now report that claimed the Israeli government advanced bids and plans for 14,000 dwelling units beyond the 1949 Armistice line during the nine months of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The report claimed an average of 1,540 units were built each month.

A statement by the council said the figures were not correct, saying the report refers to planning meetings about Jewish comunities and houses which have existed for years, adding the council would be happy if there was new construction. The statement chided Peace Now for its manipulative use of the term "unprecedented" in describing the already-existing homes as an attempt to blame the failure of the talks on Israel.
