Workers: Makor Rishon, NRG Could Die and Become Corpses

Employees of the Makor Rishon newspaper and the affiliated nrg Website said, Sunday afternoon, that following Monday's observances of Holocaust Memorial Day they will protest outside the offices of the anti-trust authorities, demanding the immediate approval of the sale of the operation to the owners of the Yisrael Hayom daily. The announcement followed a meeting called in the wake of a declaration by trustee Chen Berditchev that he will be forced to close the newspaper and Website and dismiss the workers if the sale is not approved by the end of the week.

Editor-in-chief Uri Elitzur said, "If the decision is not made by Thursday, the newspaper will die and become a corpse. A newspaper that is not published is a corpse and I'm not sure that the anti-trust commissioner understands this. We all need to be heard for the good of Israeli democracy and freedom of speech. To stifle us with a claim of business limitations is far-fetched
