Kalmanovitz: Hareidim Delaying J'm Chief Rabbi Election

Deputy Mayor Dov Kalmanovitz of Jerusalem said, Friday, that he is afraid hareidi members of the city council are delaying nominations to the body choosing the city's chief rabbi so that religious Zionist candidate Aryeh Stern will reach the age of 70 and be ineligible for the position. Kalmanovitz told Arutz Sheva that if they don't submit nominations in 30 days, the authority to do so will go to the Office of Religious Services.

Kalmanovitz said contacts aimed at an agreement with the hareidim continue. Without going into details, he said, "We feel an obligation to the hareidi public, which is a big public in Jerusalem."
