Russian Navy Active in Caspian Sea

Russian Naval forces have begun a series of military exercises in the Caspian Sea, Russian news agency Interfax reports. The exercises will continue for a week’s time and will include 10 naval ships and 400 crew members.

The Caspian Sea borders Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, and serves as a channel for the distribution of crude oil and natural gas. Russia has intensified the frequency of its military exercises in the region since the onset of the current crisis with the Ukraine.
