Shechtman Supporters Welcome Lapid Decision

Associates of presidential candidate Dan Shechtman welcomed, Thursday afternoon, the decision by Chairman Ya'ir Lapid of the Yesh Atid party, Wednesday evening, that he was removing a ban on the party's Knesset members signing the nomination petitions of the presidential candidates. The Nobel laureate professor's supports expressed support that other parties would follow suit.

The president is elected by the Knesset and a candidate needs the signatures of 10 Members of Knesset. A number of candidates, such as Shechtman, former Knesset speaker Dalia Itzik and retired justice Dalia Dorner have not qualified.
