Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon (Likud Beytenu) stated on Monday that the terrorist prisoner release may take place after the Passover holiday. The fourth and final batch of terrorists scheduled to be released several weeks ago was cancelled by Israel following the Palestinian Authority's breach of the negotiation stipulations. The release was intended to be a gesture to move forward the ongoing talks between Israel and the PA.
Danon vowed to leave his position as Deputy Defense Minister in protest against the release of terrorists. In an interview with Israel National Radio's Reality Bytes podcast he told host Josh Hasten that the demand for convicts to be released was "blackmail." He added that should he resign, he will remain an active member of the Likud party with perhaps even more flexibility to speak his mind on important policies affecting the future of the Jewish State.
