Egypt to Tighten Supervision of Mosques

The Egyptian government is planning to tighten its supervision of local mosques and will appoint thousands of new imams in an attempt to weaken the Muslim Brotherhood, Kol Yisrael radio reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the Egyptian authorities have announced that 17,000 imams have been trained at Cairo’s Al-Azhar University, and they have been instructed to prevent houses of prayer from falling into the hands of extremists.
