US: Law Bridging Salary Gaps among Genders Blocked

The US Republican Congress blocked the approval of a law in the Senate whose goal is to bridge the gap between what men and women earn. According to the legislators, the law is likely to prevent employers who fear lawsuits from giving raises or to allow more flexible work hours in exchange for a lower salary.

President Barack Obama related to the republicans’ resistance to the law and said that it “Thwarts national efforts to rebuild an economy which would allow any American who works hard a fair chance to advance.”
