A permaculture course will be held in Israel to teach both the laws of shmita (the sabbatical year) and sustainable living practices. The seven-year cycle of letting the land lie fallow, as a sabbath for the earth will begin this autumn with Rosh Hashannah. In preparation, classes in greywater recycling, biofertilizer and other natural gardening techniques will be taught. The course will take place in two small communities just north of Jerusalem -- Ramat Raziel and Beit Zayit -- by Food Integrated Gardens and Heaven Mountain Nursery starting in May. A permaculture design certificate will be offered. For more information click here.
