The Knesset held a pre-Passover Seder meal, Tuesday, in honor of Jonathan Pollard, who is in the 29th year of a life sentence for passing classified information from the United States to Israel. Member of Knesset Motti Yogev (Jewish Home) told the gathering, "The redemption of captives is considered one the most important of all the commandments between a man and his fellow man. Also known is the devotion of Jonathan Pollard to the security of the people of Israel and the State of Israel."
Yogev continued, "The deed is known and the punishment is known. There is no proportion by the U.S. government in the relation between the punishment and the crime." He also said that, "not releasing Jonathan Pollard, despite the many years that is languishing in the American prison, sick and not even released for the funeral of his father - is immoral and inhumane behavior by the American government."
