The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange started Tuesday with modest losses in mixed trading. About an hour into the session, the TA Composite Index stood at 1,288.79, down .61 percent from Monday's close, while the TA 100 declined .62 percent to 1,290.21, including a drop of .53 percent to 1,414.85 by the TA 25 most-widely-invested issues. The stocks outside the TA 100 stood at 1,081.54, up .15 percent.
Leading the gainers was the communications index, which rose .84 percent to 798.36. The insurance issues stood at 1,558.93, up three tenths of a percent, as the financial institutions fell .28 percent to 1,297.80, including a loss of .39 percent to 1,338.09 by the bank stocks. The oil and natural-gas index advanced .14 percent to 1,367.28, while the same percentage increase meant an average posting of 355.01 for most of the technology issues and the biomed stocks stood at 1,095.25, down .47 percent. The real-estate index edged up .05 percent to 401.10.
