US Judge Declares ‘Kollel’ Learning is Form of Employment

A New York State judge has ruled that men studying in high Torah academies (Kollels) on a regular and intensive basis, devoting their lives to ‘religious doctrine,’ are considered to be employed by the Kollels and merit child benefits and stipends.

Social services on the other hand, has refused this ruling and appealed the court’s decision.
