Deputy Education Minister Avi Wortzman visited the pre-military academy in the Binyamin-region community of Elisha, north of Jerusalem, on Thursday, in the wake of a Knesset Education Committee meeting, about two months ago, when Member of Knesset Merav Michaeli (Labor) called for an end to the academy's funding because it lacked zoning approval by the Defense Ministry's Civil Administration for Judea and Samaria. Committee Chairman Amram Mitzna told the Defense Ministry that the approval had to be completed or the funding would be lost.
Wortzman called on Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon to finish the approval immediately in order to spare the academy of economic damage. Wortzman said, "It cannot be when we talk about equality of burden [of military service -ed.] that the state would specifically hurt those who are doing full service as the cutting edge of religious and Israeli society." said Hertzman. He added "This is one of the higher-quality pre-military academies we have, which has given the state exemplary soldiers and commanders for many years."
