PM Asks More Time to Choose Foreign/Defense C'tee Chair

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu asked the Supreme Court, Monday to allow him to withdraw his promise to name a chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, which has been without a leader since former chairman Avigdor Liberman returned to the Foreign Ministry, according to a Tuesday-morning report by Israel Defense Forces Radio. Sources in the Prime Minister's Office said the request was for no time limit.

Opposition Leader Yitzhak Herzog, who petitioned the Supreme Court to force an appointment, said it was unreasonable for the most important committee in the Knesset to be without a leader so long.
