Communications Minister Gil'ad Erdan has instructed cellular phone companies to automatically block phones from Internet surfing when a customer goes abroad unless the customer has an agreement to surf in the destination or has asked to do so while abroad. The goal is to protect customers from "Bill Shock" as a result of involuntary surfing.
Customers with agreements will be sent text messages regarding how much of their alloted message time has been used. A customer without an agreement for Internet surfing who has requested access will be sent a text message for dealing with the situation. All of these services will free of charge.
