Opinion: Religious Observance Crucial for Conversion

The current accepted procedure employed by the national courts examines the prospective convert’s intentions.

Nevertheless, even when future religious observance is not certain, one must not prevent the person from converting. This, despite religious observance being a crucial element of Jewish life.

Rabbi Eliezer Melamed states that so long as there is a high probability of the convert observing religion, conversion is not to be prevented.
