Begin to Sadat: Pre-1967 Borders Unacceptable

In honor of the 35th anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, the State Archive released on Tuesday historical documents and secret memos related to the negotiations that led to the treaty.

The documents indicate that the talks also focused on the conflict with the Palestinian Arabs and the crisis with the U.S., which was pressuring Israel at the time to withdraw from Judea and Samaria. The documents also indicate that during the talks, then Prime Minister Menachem Begin told then Egyptian President Anwar Sadat that "a withdrawal to pre-1967 borders and a Palestinian state are unacceptable to us.
