Treasury Hits Foreign Ministry Union Strong-Arm Tactics

The Finance Ministry attacked, Sunday, the strike by Foreign Ministry workers around the world, scheduled to begin on Monday. A Treasury statement said, "The Foreign Ministry workers' committee is taking the citizens of Israel hostage and harming the vital interests of the state."

The statement claimed, "The Ministry of Finance proposed solutions to issues raised by the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but the committee is demanding salary increasess for senior officials. We'll remind [you] that Foreign Service workers received a wage increase of 20% just two years ago. The employee committee refused to accept the solutions and unilaterally abandoned the mediation process headed by Judge Steve Adler [former president of the National Labor Court -ed.]. We urge the committee to stop using strong-arm tactics and to return to the mediation process."
