Report: Army Veterans Can Save 18% on First Home

Finance Minister Ya'ir Lapid has decided not to charge the 18-percent value-added tax to someone not owning a dwelling and to young couples buying their first home, according to a Tuesday-morning report by the Yediot Ahronot daily. To qualify, the homebuyers would have to have served in the Israel Defense Forces, ruling out most hareidim and Arabs. Lapid's decision was opposed by the ministry's professional staff.
