Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi David Lau visited a number of places in the western-Negev city of Sderot, Friday, against the backdrop of the latest round of rockets fired from nearby Gaza. Referring to the Feast of Esther, which starts Saturday night, he told residents, "The whole country is behind you and praying for your wellbeing. We hope that Purim will be as it should be and that we, all together as the house of Israel can rejoice in the joy of the holiday."
He distributed Mishloach manot gift packages to soldiers staffing the Iron Dome missile-defense batteries protecting the city and wished them success in preventing a blow to the residents' joy of the holiday. He explained, "You have been given an important task and you are really engaged in the holy task of saving souls."
