Member of Knesset Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz) called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Thursday, to immediately name a chairman to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The position has been vacant since former chairman Avigdor Liberman returned to the Foreign Ministry in November. Netanyahu would like to name Member of Knesset Tzachi Hanegbi (Likud Beytenu) while the Yesh Atid party feels its Opher Shelah should get the position under coalition agreements.
Horowitz said, "The prime minister must put an end to the ego battles within his coalition...." He also said, "Its unthinkable that there's no parliamentary oversight of the defense establishment during the escalation in the south. Continuation of the current situation is intolerable. For example, the committee's approval is required to call up the reserves, but it cannot convene. This is abandonment. "
