Supreme Court Justice (Ret.) Edmond Levy passed away this evening (Tuesday) at the age of 72.
Judge Levy served on the Supreme Court from 2000 to 2011, and was the only justice to call for the rejection of the Disengagement Plan. He also was known to have led the Court's efforts to end ethnic segregation in the community of Emmanuel.
The Legal Forum for Israel published a notice announcing the death of Judge Levy, saying "Judge Levy was clear voice which would not bow down to the majority in the Supreme Court . Levy will always be remembered for his brave stance in the protection of human rights of the residents of Gush Katif even as a heavy-handed government decided to uproot them ."
