A 19-year-old woman who had been admitted into a facility that specializes in fertility near TIberias was transferred to Rambam Hospital over the weekend has died, the result of a pulmonary embolism. Doctors were not able to save the fetus.
This is the second case within a week of death by pulmonary embolism. Last Thursday, at Ma'ayanei Hayeshua Hospital, near Bnai Brak, a 38-year-old woman who had recently given birth was found dead in the maternity ward's facilities. The death was attributed to a pulmonary embolism.
Ma'ayanei Hayehua's administrator noted that in advanced, first-world countries, the mortality rate amongst women for pulmonary embolism is 6-7 per 100,000 births. "We have had over 140,000 births here and this is the first instance I have ever seen," she commented.
