Histadrut: We Won't Help Take Down the IBA

Employees of the Israel Broadcasting Authority met today (Tuesday) with Avi Nissenkorn, who is presently the head of the Histadrut's (Labor Federation) Trade Union Department and who is expected to become the next Histadrut Chairman. The meeting was set to formulate a plan of action that would aid the employees in their struggle against the latest recommendations of the Landes Committee, which are to close the public station (which would eliminate the television tax), and re-open it using commercial advertising to fund it.

Following the meeting, Nisserkorn commented, "We are not against reform at the IBA, but we do oppose throwing 2,000 employees into the streets to join the ranks of the unemployed."
