The re-election for the mayor of Beit Shemesh will take place Tuesday. The original mayoral elections were held in October along with most other cities in Israel. However allegations of voter fraud and ballot tampering has led to a re-election, scheduled for Tuesday, March 11th. The vote pits incumbent Mayor Moshe Abutbul of the Shas party against challenger Eli Cohen of the Beit Shemesh is Returning party.
Beit Shemesh is located in central Israel about halfway in between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. As of 2011 it was listed as having a population of 84,200 residents, with the population swiftly rising every year.
The city of Nazareth is also holding a re-election.
