Director Yizhak Santis of the NGO Monitor's BDS [Boycott, Divest, Sanctions against Israel -ed.] in the Pews project will participate in a symposium entitled "The Effort to Divest Evangelical Christians from Israel: A New Campaign" on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Djanogly Hall in the Mishkenot Sha'ananim complex in Jerusalem's Yemin Moshe neighborhood. The event is being hosted by the Liason Committee, an initiative of the B'nai B'rith World Center in Jerusalem and the Ecumenical Theological Research Fraternity, as an alternative to the "Christ at the Checkpoint" conference, set to take place March 10-14 in Bethlehem.
On Thursday, NGO Monitor released a report which examines the funding sources of the Bethlehem conference and their impact on the conference's agenda. Santis said, "Our research indicates that the conference's political purpose is to weaken Evangelical Christian support for Israel in the United States and elsewhere. They do this by providing a stage to delegitimize the State of Israel and rejecting its historical, religious and legal underpinnings."
