Treasurer Ya'ir Lapid and Science Minister Ya'akov Perry announced, Thursday, that their ministries intend to promote policy measures aimed at encouraging excellence in the Arab sector, developing local leadership and promoting entrepreneurship among Arab women. Their comments came during a tour of the Lower Galilee Arab city of Sakhnin.
Lapid said, "Do not settle for wanting to be equal. Want to become better and that your children will be better. Our goal is to build, together, models of excellence in the Arab sector."
Budget Directer Amir Levi told local leaders, "We have a long and significant work process [ahead of us]. Our intention is to treat the root problems in major areas: education, day care centers, public transportation and employment, [and] strengthening local government in the distribution of income between neighboring local authorities. The state and the Ministry of Finance have a responsibility, and you, the leaders of the Arab authorities have a responsibility. You need to be the agents of the change. Cooperation of the Treasury and the mayors will lead to the integration of the Arab sector in society and employment."
