Knesset Rejects Jewish Core Curriculum Bill

The Knesset plenum rejected on Wednesday a preliminary reading of a bill submitted by Member of Knesset Menachem Eliezer Moses, the chairman of the United Torah Judaism faction. The bill called for all public schools to teach basic Jewish Studies and the Heritage of Israel. A large number of schools already teach such subjects. Education Minister Shai Piron (Yesh Atid) stated that it would not be fair to make such subjects mandatory.
