Chairman Amnon Cohen of the Knesset State Control Committee said, Tuesday, referring to Jews who were uprooted by the government from Gaza and northern Samaria (Shomron) in 2005, "We want to see the last of the evacuees sitting in their own homes and industry thriving by the end of this year." Speaking at the end of a committee hearing on the State Comptroller's report on the way the state was dealing with the evictees, he noted, "We tore the residents from their homes. People are traumatized. We will follow up until we solve all the problems with the help of G-d."
Ahead of the hearing, Housing Minister Uri Ariel told Arutz Sheva there is a plan to move displaced families out of temporary housing into upgraded transitional housing until permanent homes can be built. He noted that about 170 families face unique problems finding permanent housing - and that each family needs to be catered to as a unit.
