MK Gamliel Mulling Raising Retirement Age by Profession

Member of Knesset Gila Gamliel (Likud Beytenu), who serves on the Knesset Committee on the Status of Women and Gender Equality, is drafting an initiative to raise the retirement age based on categories of professions and not on gender. Her efforts parallel discussions in the budget branch of the Finance Ministry on raising the retirement age for women from 62 to 64 and for men from 67 to 70.

Gamliel explains, "Raising the retirement age can benefit women on employment tracks in certain professions where early retirement is a factor that can hinder their advancement and create discrimination between men and women, and on the other hand, it could worsen the situation of other women who are employed in abrasive professions or who are not employed."
