The Bnei Akiva youth movement is planning a marathon on Monday to raise awareness for imprisoned Jewish-American Jonathan Pollard. The group plans to gather a variety of yeshiva students for a race, wearing t-shirts and bracelets in support of Pollard's release. The event was inspired by Sunday's major rally in front of the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv.
In 1987 Jonathan Pollard was convicted of passing classified information to a foreign nation and sentenced to life in prison. His supporters said that the information he sent to Israel dealt with Arab chemical and biological weapons capabilities. They argue his sentence is disproportionate in comparison to others.
