Afula Rabbi: Girls Can Go to the Army

Rabbi Shmuel David, Chief Rabbi of the city of Afula, told Arutz Sheva on Thursday that there is no prohibition for girls to enlist in the army.

“I’ve never heard that the Chief Rabbinate issued a ruling which forbids women to enlist. I heard about it in the media, but have never received such a directive,” he said, adding, "What I do recommend for some girls, however, is that they go to a midrasha before enlisting. This is so they can prepare themselves for life in the army, at the university or anywhere else.”
