A petition by Jerusalem residents calls to save the much beloved "mifletzet," or monster-shaped slide in a park in the Kiriyat Yovel neighborhood. A city council member has initiated the petition, stating that the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transportation plan to downsize the children's park as part of the expansion of the light rail. According to the petition, the city plans to cut down several large trees as well.
The mifletzet is officially called The Golem, after the classic Jewish legend and has been in Rabinovitch Park for over 30 years. It has three slides shaped like tongues in which children can slide down and was designed by the world renowned French artist Niki de Saint Phalle.
