      PM to Shaked Committee: Freeze Vote on Sanctions


      Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the Shaked Committee on increasing hareidi-religious national service to suspend all voting on criminal and economic sanctions for those who avoid military service.

      The committee already deferred a vote on extending the military portion of the predominantly religious-Zionist hesder yeshiva program for an internal check to see if it violated a coalition agreement between the Jewish Home and Likud Beytenu factions to keep the active duty at 16 months. Committee member Elazar Stern (Hatenu'ah) requested a revote on a previously defeated move to lengthen hesder service, backed by hareidi parties as a way to get back at Jewish Home for supporting criminal sanctions against those who don't report for duty.
