Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem joined employees of the Hadassah hospitals, Monday, in Safra Square, outside the Jerusalem municipality. The employees were protesting the incomplete payment of their January salaries and the hospitals' bad financial shape.
Barkat said, "Hadassah will not fall. Hadassah must not collapse. Hadassah must not be harmed and we won't let Hadassah be harmed. Hadassah along with being a hospital is backed by research and, together with the university, is the promising future for generations of researchers and thousands in a sea of workers."
Recalling his personal ties to the hospital, the mayor said "Hadassah and Jerusalem are synonymous." He added, "During serious incidents that Jerusalem has gone through, Hadassah was the backbone and the homefront. During attacks, crises and wars, Hadassah is always there when the public needs something to rest on. In every situation, Hadassah always stands unconditionally by Jerusalem and that is why Jerusalem is right by her side."
