      Bill to Protect Tenants

Long-term lease monitoring, specific definitions delineating an "uninhabitable" apartment, and obligating landlords to pay brokerage and legal fees are a few of the issues covered in the bill being submitted to the Knesset to insure tenants' rights.

The bill, submitted by MK Stav Shafir (Labor) and MK Orly Levi-Abekasis (Yisrael Beyenu), first define what determines a living unit to be inhabitable or not. The proposal, to be determined by law, will include running water, ventilation, and electrical outlets.

The law may also include a tenant's right to demand a three-year lease without a raise in the rent in order to encourage long-term leases.
