Egyptian Candidate: Release Prisoners of Conscience

Hamdeen Sabahi, the Egyptian activist who announced his candidacy for president, on Wednesday called for the release of all “prisoners of conscience.”

"At the moment there are real prisoners of conscience in Egypt," he said in a televised interview, referring to young people involved in the 2011 uprising that ousted former President Hosni Mubarak and the 2013 protest movement against former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

Sabahi came in third in the 2012 presidential elections, behind Morsi and former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq.
