The Attorney-General vs. The Rabbinical Court

Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein filed a request today (Tuesday) with the Supreme Court regarding opinion  8533/13. The subject is a petition by a baby's mother who claims that the rabbinical court had overstepped its bounds when it directed her to circumcise her son, who more than a year old.

The A-G argues that in as much as the child was over a year old, the rabbinical courts had crossed over the limits of its purview, and based on that, the petition should be accepted. Weinstein further argued that there is doubt as to whether or not the rabbinic tribunal had the child's best interests in mind when they gave the instruction to the mother.
