Former Health Ministry CEO: Don't Nationalize Hadassah

Shuki Shemer, a former executive director of the Health Ministry, rejected, Tuesday morning, current executive director Roni Gamzu's support for nationalization of the financially-troubled Hadassah hospitals in Jerusalem. Interviewed by Channel 10 Television, Professor Shemer called the proposal "the worst possible thing," adding that Gamzu himself "is not succeeding in forcing what he wants on government hospitals."

Citing a conflict of interest at the administrative level, the head of the Maccabi health fund and the Assuta Medical Center said the Health Ministry cannot simultaneously supervise and tell the hospital what to do so it must limit itself to supervision. He said the hospital must create a strong board of directors to examine problems in the corporate structure.
