IMA Head Gives Ultimatum to Hadassah Management for Doctor's Insurance

Chairman of the Israel Medical Association (IMA), Dr. Leonid Edelman, gave an ultimaturm to Hadassah management today (Monday), demanding to see a copy of the latest professional insurance policy taken out on doctors practicing at the hospital.

"If we have not received a copy of the current insurance policy for doctor's that Hadassah provides by 10 a.m., as stated, then we will be understand that the doctors at Hadassah have no coverage," Edelman wrote in a letter to hospital CEO Avigdor Kaplan and Executive Director of the Ministry of Health Roni Gamzu.

"In this event, we will conclude that the doctors employed at the Hadassah hospitals are not "covered from shekel one" regarding their work, and we cannot permit them to continue to expose themselves to possible litigation that could involve millions of shekels, and we will have to instruct the doctors to leave the hospital property so as to not futher leave themselves open and vulnerable to future claims," he continued.
