Spain: Jewish Descendants Able to Obtain Spanish Citizenship

The Madrid government approved on Friday a law enabling descendants of Jews who were exiled from Spain to claim Spanish citizenship without having to give up their current citizenship. Applicants will have to prove their Spanish heritage through their family names, language and geneology. They will also need to obtain the confirmation of the Federation of Jewish Communities.in Spain. 

Spanish Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón Jiménez noted that Spain "has a debt to the Jews of Spain who have shared in the language and culture of Spain."
