Member of Knesset Ya'akov Asher (United Torah Judaism) claimed, Friday, that Thursday's violent clashes between hareidi-religious Jews and police in Jerusalem, Bnei Brak and Ashdod only serve the interests of Finance Minister Ya'ir Lapid and will not result in a shelving of the national service law, against which the hareidim were demonstrating. Asher said. "We have been warning for a long time about pushing the hareidim up against the wall that will lead to extremism." He noted, "Thus began the phenomenon of the hilltop youth when the right felt it was being pushed up against the wall."
Referring to Lapid, Asher said, "He doesn't want us in the army. He wants hareidi violence in the streets. It gives him additional Knesset seats."
