Ministers to Consider Written Rights for Detainees

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation is scheduled to vote, Sunday, on a bill by Members of Knesset Orit Struk (Jewish Home) and David Tzur (Hatenua') that would require police to give people who are arrested a written list of their rights as well as a list of things that the police are authorized to do.

The list draws on Struk's years at the head of the Human Rights Organization for Judea and Samaria, who had to deal with people on the right who were arrested following demonstrations, and Tzur's years as a police commander. The Public Defender's Office has endorsed the measure.
