Poll: Public for Cooling-Off Period before Presidency

Most Israeli citizens (52 percent) are in favor of a law that would require ministers and members of Knesset to take a three-year break after leaving office before running for the largely-ceremonial office of president, according to a survey published in Friday's Ma'ariv. Thirty-seven percent opposed such a bill.

According to the poll, the public believes that Nobel laureate Dan Schechtman and former Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin are the most suitable candidates to succeed Shim'on Peres.
