UNESCO: 250 Million Children in World Illiterate

According to a report prepared for the Agency for  the United Nations Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), there are approximately 250 million children, worldwide, who cannot read, write, or display an understanding of basic arithmetic functions.

The report goes on to explain that 130 million elementary school children do not possess the basic skills they are supposed to have by this age, 120 million who rarely attend school, and 57 million children who never attend an educational institution whatsoever.
