The Jerusalem District Attorney notified Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir that the Police Investigation Unit (PIU) filed charges today (Wednesday) against the Border Officer policeman who attacked a young hareidi man in Beit Shemesh about six months ago. Attorney Ben-Gvir was also notified, in an unprecedented step, that the State would not be funding the officer's representation, but that it would have to come out-of-pocket from the officer in question, as part of a 200,000 shekel civil law suit being filed against him.
The incident took place half a year ago in Beit Shemesh during a demonstration. Several young hareidi men were in the back of a police car. When a young man tried to return a hat that had fallen from another young man's head, the police claimed it was to abet in an escape. The officer in question then knocked the young man to the ground and proceeded to beat him.
