Defense Minister Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon eulogized former minister Shulamit Aloni this morning (Friday), who passed away at the age of 86.
"Shulamit Aloni, who passed away this morning, was an important and integeral part of the Israeli public for many years, and her contribution to the development of the democratic discourse in Israel was very meaningful," Ya'alon said.
According to Ya'alon, that although over the years they had significant disagreements in their world view, "I have always admired her willingness to stand up and fight for her opinions and to air them aloud with a clear voice, as well as her concern for the State of Israel and its future. Arguing with her was always a challenge, and I appreciated, as well, her modesty and directness. She broke a lot of ground in the struggle for human rights, fought to effect positive change, and so affected the form and character of the State."
