Chairwoman Miri Regev of the Knesset Interior and Environmental Protection Committee called, Monday, on Attorney General Yehudah Weinstein to ensure access by rescue services and local government leaders to information about gas distribution points in residential buildings. The call came after a conversation with National Fire Chief Shahar Ayalon, following the early morning explosion of a gas balloon in Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood, which killed three, injured 14 and displaced a number of families due to damage to their dwellings.
Regev said the committee has held a number of hearings on registering gas installations, from which it was revealed that there are hundreds of installations that were made without a permit so the relevant ministries don' t know the locations. Gas companies have claimed "trade secret". Regev said she would work to make the information available to mayors alone.
