The film "Omar" was announced, Thursday by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as one of the finalists for the 2014 Oscar as best foreign film. The film depicts the story of a young Palestinian Authority resident who decides, with his friends, to carry out a terror attack. He's caught by the Shabak (Shin Bet-General Security Services) Israel Security Agency, which tries to get him to work for them fighting terror.
The academy announced the film as representing "Palestine" instead of the Palestinian Authority. The decision was based on the United Nations General Assembly vote recognizing the PA as a non-member state.
